My original symptoms included feeling off balance when moving around, and dizzy and sick when using the computer, out shopping, working on a felting craft, doing a jigsaw and sometime just when turning my head or turning over in bed. I had a brain scan in early January 2024, with no concerns, however there didn't seem to e an obvious reason for my symptoms.
Dr. Ha conducted a thorough evaluation and found some issues which were immediately apparent. For instance she noticed that I was tilting my head slightly, and that an old hip injury was affecting my posture. She had a forensic approach to pursuing the causes of my symptoms, and much of what she said made perfect sense.
Working with Helen was always enjoyable, and I appreciate her patience and supportiveness. I was made to feel very much part of my treatment, which Helen adapted according to my progress and my own reporting of my activities, my symptoms, and their triggers. She always had a suggestion for trying something new, and I appreciate her thoughtful preparation for our sessions.
Along with all the home exercises and therapy sessions, some lifestyle changes have made a difference. Primarily, reconnecting with my environment seems to have helped a great deal. Being consciously aware of my wider visual surroundings, walking barefoot and taking a break from headphones have all helped to ground me. The process was a bit like solving a mystery, with clues along the way that we explored together.
Most of the symptoms I was experiencing have gone now. I am still a bit unsteady when balancing on one foot, or standing toe to heel, but a quick poll of my peers indicated that that is not unusual at my age, I am really appreciating feeling “normal” again as I go about my day. How great is that?
