He was complaining about not being able to see far, so we went to the Optometrist check-up and Dr. Salazar noticed that something didn't seem right in one of the tests while his distance vision seemed ok.
When mentioning that my son had a concussion, things started to fall into place, and she referred us for a Vision Therapy Assessment.
Since Vision Therapy, Samuel's reading has improved, not to mention his self-esteem and confidence. His vision is incredibly good (no need for glasses to read close or far away). Coordination in sports has improved, noticing a big change in posture to throw a ball, and when passing to teammates. Homework resistance for prolonged reading has also improved drastically.
What I liked most is the holistic approach and how the results speak about the success of the therapy. I love the fact that with proper training and practice, the function of the eye/brain relationship can be improved so much (and without medication).
This was an eye-opening experience for us as a family. Really thankful about being referred to Vision Therapy and to have found this valuable resource for my son and our family.
As parents, it is super important to follow up with our kids and be involved with the therapies at home, and to be part of the progress, challenges, and success.
Each step is meant to improve certain things so, don't get hung up on the duration (or number of sessions) of the therapy and rather on the little and big wins. It is 100% worth it :)
